Blackhawks Place Andrew Desjardins On IR

(CBS) The Blackhawks have placed forward Andrew Desjardins on injured reserve, they announced Monday.

Desjardins suffered an unspecified injury in Saturday's loss at St. Louis. He was fighting for a roster spot among several others and will now be out at least seven days. He had 13 points in 77 regular-season games in 2015-'16 and was counted on for his defensive abilities as well.

Additionally, the Blackhawks assigned 19-year-old forward Alexandre Fortin to Rouyn-Noranda Huskies of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League. He'd impressed in recent months, signing a three-year entry-level contract. Chicago also sent goalie Ivan Nalimov to Vladivostok Admiral of the Kontinental Hockey League.

Chicago opens the season Wednesday by hosting St. Louis at the United Center.
