Black Friday Shoppers Head Out To Woodfield Mall In Search For Bargains

CHICAGO (CBS) – It's the most wonderful time of the year for retailers!

But some shoppers were forced to wait in long lines, as they began their search for bargains.

CBS 2's Lauren Victory is at Woodfield Mall in Schaumburg where they are expecting another surge of shoppers this morning.

At 4 a.m. plenty of spots were available at Woodfield Malls parking lot, perhaps because some people are already done shopping.

The National Retail Federation said nearly 6 out of 10 Americans made their holiday purchases before Thanksgiving. Some of that is done online with emails starting to flood inboxes right after Halloween.

Woodfield Mall threw open the doors Thursday night at 6 p.m. and has been open to Black Friday shoppers for almost 12 hours.

Mall representatives told CBS 2 that the lines for stores like H&M and Urban Outfitters stretched down the hallways.

CBS 2 spotted some shoppers catching a snooze. Others we seen taking a little break before diving back in.

The average American will spend more than $900 this season. Clothes, gift cards and books top the present list this year. The National Retail Federation predicts 137-million people will hit the malls this weekend. Holiday sales are expected to rise 3.6 percent for November and December.

Woodfield Mall representatives said they did a parking lot survey and it appears the mall was busier on Thanksgiving this year compared to last year.
