Bilandic Building Closed After Flooding Problem

CHICAGO (CBS) -- A state government office building in the Loop was closed Friday, after a water main break flooded an electrical vault.

Construction work on Randolph Street ruptured a water main, and water gushed into an electrical vault, disrupting elevator service and air conditioning at the Michael A. Bilandic Building at 160 N. LaSalle St., according to the state's Department of Central Management Services.

ComEd crews have been dispatched to make repairs, but without working elevators or air conditioning, the building has been closed for the day on Friday.

The Bilandic Building houses offices and courtrooms for the Illinois Supreme Court and Illinois Appellate Court, as well as legislative offices, several state agencies, and a child day care center.

The James R. Thompson Center, the state's main government office building across the street, was not affected.
