(CBS) -- A bike without its rider drew the attention of police early New Year's Day.

Police say a man on two wheels was fatally hit by a dark-colored minivan that fled the scene in the 4700 block of West Division. The vehicle left the scene and left a family in a state of disbelief and grief.

The victim was identified as Aimer Robledo, 30.

The bicyclist's nephew, Rafael Hernandez, says his uncle was either biking to or from a friend's house around 3 a.m. Thursday.

Robledo was tossed off his bike on Division near Cicero and died of his injuries.

Friends say he's a man who loved to DJ and play music for others. He had two young daughters.

His family is asking for the driver to take responsibility for his death. Police are reviewing surveillance video in hopes of finding leads in the case.
