Man critically injured in Belmont Cragin apartment fire

CHICAGO (CBS) -- A man was hospitalized in critical condition after an apartment fire Wednesday morning in the Belmont Cragin neighborhood.

Police said officers responded to a call of a fire shortly before 1 a.m. in the 2300 block of North Meade Avenue.

Firefighters pulled a man out of the fire, and he had burns throughout his body, and a laceration to his neck.

The victim was taken to Loyola University Medical Center in critical condition.

Police said a preliminary investigation indicated the laceration to his neck might have been self-inflicted before the fire.

The cause of the fire was under investigation Wednesday morning.
