CHICAGO (STMW) -- A man has been charged with shooting a 14-year-old boy late Sunday in the Belmont Central neighborhood on the Northwest Side.

Ismael Ortiz, 19, faces one felony count of aggravated battery with the discharge of a firearm, according to a statement from Chicago Police.

About 10 p.m., Ortiz was hiding behind a vehicle in the 5700 block of West Belden when he fired shots in the direction of three males, striking the 14-year-old in the right hand, police said.

The boy was taken in good condition to West Suburban Medical Center in Oak Park, police said.

Ortiz, who lives in the 2100 block of North McVicker, was arrested a short time later and was identified by the victims as the shooter, police said.

He was scheduled to appear in bond court Wednesday.
