Beer Truck Spills Part Of Load On I-65 After Rollover Accident, Snarling Traffic For Hours

LOWELL, Ind.(STMW) -- A semi truck loaded with beer rolled on I-65, spilling part of its load and snarling northbound traffic in northwest Indiana Monday morning, the Post-Tribune is reporting.

The left lane of I-65 at mile marker 237 was shut down following the crash, about three miles south of the Lowell exit, according to Indiana State Police. The crash happened about 6:45 a.m. Monday, but backed traffic up for hours.

According to an ISP statements, Khurshid A. Makhmudov, 31, of Vancouver Wash., was northbound on I-65 in the left lane when he adjusted his radio and that caused the truck to drift off the roadway. The driver overcorrected to the right and lost control.

The truck, owned by Enroute Transport Inc. of Chicago, went into the median, rolled and slid about 200 feet, ISP said.

Makhmudov was cited for unsafe lane movement and taken to Saint Anthony's Hospital in Crown Point, Ind., with a forearm injury.

The truck was hauling bottles and cans of beer, including Miller Lite. The beer must be loaded onto another trailer before the truck can be uprighted, the statement said.

Motorists in the area should expect delays.
