Beating Causes Chicago Woman's Death, More Than A Decade Later

(STMW) -- A woman attacked more than a decade ago in the East Garfield Park neighborhood died Sunday, and her death has been ruled a homicide.

Shantil Moore, 28, was pronounced dead at Kindred Hospital Chicago - North at 1:06 p.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.

On Aug. 4, 2003, she was standing in the 200 block of North Homan Avenue when she was beaten in the head and body about 11:45 p.m., police News Affairs Sergeant Antoinette Ursitti said.

She was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital after the attack, Ursitti said.

An autopsy Monday found Moore died of sepsis, complications of cervicospinal injuries and an assault. Her death was ruled a homicide, according to the medical examiner's office.

Her most recent home address -- 2451 W. Touhy Ave., according to the medical examiner's office -- is the listed address of GlenCrest Nursing & Rehabilitation Centre.

No one has been charged in connection with the incident, which was investigated by Area North detectives, Ursitti said.
