Bears' Vic Fangio: Cubs World Series Win 'In The Bag'
By Chris Emma--
LAKE FOREST, Ill. (CBS) -- A native of northeast Pennsylvania, Bears defensive coordinator Vic Fangio saw his local favorite Philadelphia Phillies come to Chicago and sweep the Cubs in late July. He also saw it as a chance for the Cubs to reignite their hopes.
Last week, hours before Chicago took part in the NL wild-card in Pittsburgh, Fangio predicted the Cubs would win the World Series. So when he addressed reporters Wednesday -- with the Cubs now off to the NLCS after beating the Cardinals in four games in the NLDS -- Fangio offered a follow-up to his claim.
"It's in the bag," Fangio said of the Cubs winning the World Series. "Don't even worry about it. Just enjoy it."
While leading the Bears' improving defense, Fangio is taking in the Cubs' success.
Fangio suggested the similarities he sees between the Cubs and 2004 Boston Red Sox, who broke their long World Series drought in 2004.
"Just like the Red Sox ended their curse by going through their archrivals, the Yankees, in the playoffs, the Cubs have done the same, they went through the Cardinals," Fangio said. "Plus you got another guys from Northeastern PA, where I'm from, Joe Maddon, leading the team."
