Bears Sign TE Matthew Mulligan To 1-Year Deal

(CBS) The Bears signed tight end Matthew Mulligan to a one-year contract on Tuesday evening, the team announced.

The 29-year-old Mulligan, a five-year NFL veteran, played for the Patriots last season, recording two catches for 16 yards. He previously played for the Jets and Rams, and he's played in at least 15 games each of the past three years. Mulligan is 6-foot-4, 267 pounds and could be relied upon as an extra blocker in certain sets.

He figures to battle Dante Rosario, Fendi Onobun and Zach Miller for time at backup tight end behind Martellus Bennett.
