Bears Sign S Ahmad Dixon, Waive CB Demontre Hurst

(CBS) In an effort to shore up their last line of defense, the Bears have signed safety Ahmad Dixon off the Vikings' practice squad and waived cornerback Demontre Hurst to make room for him on the 53-man roster, they announced Monday afternoon.

The 6-foot-, 210-pound Dixon is a rookie who was selected by the Cowboys in the seventh round of May's draft. Dallas waived him at the end of the preseason. Dixon played collegiately at Baylor, where he was a second-team All-American as a senior in 2013.

Hurst made his first NFL appearance Sunday in the Bears' loss to the Bills at Soldier Field. He only played on special teams.
