Bears RB Jacquizz Rodgers Is Out For Season With Broken Arm

(CBS) Bears running back Jacquizz Rodgers has been placed on the season-ending injured reserve list with a broken right arm, coach John Fox said Monday.

Rodgers suffered the injury while playing special teams in Sunday's 18-17 at Kansas City. He had 14 carries for 41 yards in the season's first five games.

To help fill his void, Chicago has signed running back Antone Smith, a 30-year-old who appeared in 10 games and had 23 carries for the Falcons last season.

Rodgers' absence means rookie running back Jeremy Langford will likely see his role increase a bit. He has 10 carries for 24 yards this season.

In other news, Fox declined to specify or share any details on linebacker Shea McClellin's knee injury. It's not clear whether he'll be available to play next Sunday when Chicago visits Detroit.

The status of receiver Alshon Jeffery (hamstring) also remains unclear. He's missed the team's past four games after playing in the season opener.

Fox shed little light on Jeffery's progress, other than to say the frustration surrounding his absence is "understandable" on all sides.
