Bears Place Brandon Marshall On Injured Reserve

(CBS) The Chicago Bears officially put wide receiver Brandon Marshall on injured reserve on Monday afternoon. Marshall suffered two fractured ribs and an injured lung against the Cowboys last Thursday and was released from the hospital last night.

It was an injury-plagued season for Marshall, who suffered an ankle injury in the season opener against the Bills that hampered him for the majority of the year. He was on pace for his lowest career totals in both receptions and yardage, and his 721 receiving yards this season snaps his streak of seven straight seasons with 1,000-plus receiving yards.

Since joining the Bears, the five-time Pro Bowler has 279 receptions, 3,524 receiving yards and 31 touchdowns, ranking third in the NFL in receptions, seventh in receiving yards and fourth in touchdown receptions since 2012.

Wide receiver Josh Bellamy has been signed from the practice squad and promoted to the active roster, taking Marshall's spot. The Bears also signed linebacker Jonathan Brown to the practice squad. Brown is an undrafted free agent from Illinois.
