Bears G Long To Miss Start Of Camp With Viral Infection

(CBS) Bears right guard Kyle Long won't be ready to go when training camp opens Friday because he has a viral infection, general manager Phil Emery said.

Long will be out at least through the weekend. He made the Pro Bowl as a rookie last season.

The issue isn't expected to be serious.

"If it was left to Kyle, he'd be out there," Emery said.

Fellow Bears starting offensive linemen Matt Slauson (shoulder) and Jordan Mills (foot) have been cleared for Friday's opening practice.

On the other side of the ball, Bears safety Chris Conte will open camp on the PUP list as he recovers from offseason shoulder surgery. He's expected back at some point in the preseason.
