Beach Park School Bus Involved In Accident With Two Semis, Nine Students Hurt

(CBS) --Nine children aboard a school bus were hurt Wednesday in a chain-reaction crash in far north suburban Beach Park.

The nine were among 56 students on their way home from the Frank Murphy Elementary School. Lake County Sheriff's Police Detective Christopher Covelli said the bus was stopped when it was hit from behind by a semi-tractor trailer truck driven by Milos Ostojic, of Gurnee, that failed to stop, and was pushed into another semi in front of it, on Green Bay Road, just south of Major Avenue.

Beach Park Fire Protection District Chief Paul Tierney requested mutual aid, and ambulances from 14 communities responded. The injured were taken to the Vista East and West Hospitals in Waukegan, and fire officials said no one was in serious condition.

The uninjured children were returned to the school, and parents were notified to pick them up.

Ostojic was cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, and failing to provide a license or insurance card.
