(STMW) -- A north suburban man is in critical condition after he was struck by an ambulance early Sunday in Beach Park.

The Zion fire department ambulance was returning to the station from Vista East Hospital and heading northbound on Sheridan Road near Beach Road when a pedestrian ran out in front of the ambulance about 1:30 a.m., according to the Lake County sheriff's office.
