Beach Park Father, Son Dumped Overdose Victim: Lake County Sheriff

(CBS) – Rather than call for help, a father and son from north suburban Beach Park allowed a Schaumburg man to overdose on illegal drugs and then abandoned the victim in his car near their residence, Lake County police say.

Sheriff's deputies responded Sunday morning to a report of a person slumped in a vehicle at North Wilson Avenue and West Edgewood Road. Found dead in the vehicle was Russell Eilrich, 21, of the 700 block of Greenbriar Lane, Schaumburg.

An investigation led police to Mason Spencer, 21, an acquaintance of the victim. Spencer allegedly supplied Eilrich with illegal drugs earlier in the weekend.

Police say the two men ingested drugs and Eilrich began to overdose. Instead of getting help, Mason and his father, 47-year-old James Spencer, transported the victim from their North Loyola Avenue residence in the victim's own car and left him about a block away, police said.

Both father and son were charged with involuntary manslaughter, concealment of a death, obstructing justice, the Lake County Sheriff's Office said in a news release.

They are expected to appear in bond court Tuesday.

An autopsy showed Eilrich had a combination of drugs in his system, police said.
