Cubs, Rooftop Owners Battle Over RF Sign Permit Request

(CBS) The long-running feud between the Chicago Cubs and rooftop owners has taken another turn.

The Cubs have applied for a permit for a right-field sign at Wrigley Field, and the rooftop owners mobilized their legal team Monday, increasing the chances of a court battle. The advertising sign is 650 square feet, multiple outlets reported, and rooftop owners believe it would block some sightlines and violate their contract.

"This is an unfortunate turn of events because our hope was to find a solution to this matter. Rooftop owners believe any blockage of our views violates the contract we have with the owners of the Cubs. We have instructed our legal team to proceed accordingly," said Ryan McLaughlin of the Wrigleyville Rooftops Association.

The proposed sign is part of a $500 million plan by the Cubs to renovate the stadium and develop the surrounding area.
