Barrington Man, Daughter Dead In Murder-Suicide

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Authorities in the northern suburbs were investigating a murder-suicide, after a father and daughter were found dead in their Barrington home.

Around 4:15 p.m. Tuesday, Barrington police and firefighters responded to a home in the 500 block of North Avenue, where they found a man and woman dead.

The Lake County Coroner's office identified the victims as 69-year-old Harry Burroughs, and his 35-year-old daughter, Kathryn Burroughs. Both died of asphyxia; Harry's death was ruled a suicide, and Kathryn's death was ruled a homicide.

Neighbors have said Kathryn Burroughs might have had a developmental disability.

The bodies apparently were discovered by the wife and mother, who was seen outside the home Tuesday afternoon, crying in the arms of a police officer.

Barrington police were in the lead in the investigation, but have not said much. Authorities have not said what they believe led to the murder-suicide. The Cook County Major Case Assistance Team is helping Barrington police with the investigation.
