Barkapalooza Benefiting West Suburban Humane Society Planned For Sept. 25

Chicago (CBS) — The 23rd Annual Barkapalooza takes place in a few days at Lisle Community Park, a dog walk-a-thon and expo benefiting the West Suburban Humane Society, CBS 2's Marissa Bailey reports.

This year, says Carolyn Mossberger, the executive director of the West Suburban Humane Society, the event will include the walk, vendors and entertainment, courtesy of the Sky Dogs Frisbee Team and an Agility Team and a Kids and Kindness Zone. "It's fun for the family," she says.

Though it's a day of fun, the event will raise money through pledges to take care of dogs until they find a forever home, Mossberger says.

Since the Barkabalooza started 23 years ago, Mossberger says it's grown tremendously.

"We walked through the neighborhood where the shelter is located. There was maybe  a handful of dogs and people walking through the neighborhood [when we first began]. We changed and this is the third park we have been at. We've outgrown every park that we've gone to. Now we have about 500 people come out."

The 23rd annual Barkapalooza will be from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 25 at Lisle Community Park, 1825 Short St. For more information, visit the organization website.
