Firefighters help evacuate residents after balcony collapsed at St. Francis, Wisconsin, apartment
Crews are investigating after several people had to be rescued from their apartments after a balcony collapsed in St. Francis, Wisconsin, on Sunday night.
The collapse happened just north of Milwaukee's airport.
Firefighters used a ladder to help residents in three apartments get out through their windows.
"So it took some communication," Fire Chief Nicholas Poplar said. They made the grabs, getting the people out of the upper floors relatively quick. I mean, within the first several minutes on the scene. And at that point, the dust had, no pun intended, the dust had settled. They were able to get the people out to safety, and then we condemned those four units."
No injuries were reported.
Poplar said two exterior walls of the apartment building also had some structural issues, but doesn't believe the walls are at risk of collapsing.
