Fire Damages Goodman Theatre Sign
(CBS) – An electrical fire at the Goodman Theatre early Saturday damaged the Loop venue's iconic sign.
The Chicago Fire Department says part of the sign broke off and crashed to the ground. No one hurt.
Officials say the fire at the Dearborn Street location does not appear to be suspicious.
Goodman Theatre representatives say performances will go on as scheduled. They thanked the Chicago Fire Department for a swift response that prevented the blaze from spreading to the main building.
Officials are assessing the extent of the damage to the 73-foot translucent red vertical marquee, the Goodman said in a news release.
The sign was erected in 2000, when the Goodman relocated from its former home at the Art Institute to its current residence at Dearborn and Randolph in the downtown theater district. The illuminated sign features four-foot-tall brushed stainless steel letters that spell out "Goodman."
Dear Patrons, Earlier today we experienced an electrical fire. No one was injured. All performances will go on as scheduled.
