Baby Delivered In Schaumburg Stairwell

CHICAGO (CBS) -- A woman gave birth Friday morning in a stairwell in Schaumburg, when her baby couldn't wait for an ambulance to get her to the hospital.

The Schaumburg Fire Department was called to assist with a woman in labor in a stairwell at a condominium complex at 21 Kristin Place around 7:50 a.m., but was unable to send an ambulance, as crews already were at the scene of a fire in the 1400 block of Albany Court.

By the time crews arrived, the woman had given birth in the stairwell.

Mother Miki Bloch and baby, Tristan, are doing fine, Bloch and her husband, Mike, tell CBS 2.

As for the fire, four families were displaced from an apartment complex in the 1400 block of Albany Court as a result of the fire, and the Red Cross was helping those families find shelter, but no injuries were reported.
