Aurora Alderman Shoplifts Second Time At Same Store: Police
(CBS) – An Aurora alderman has been charged with retail theft for the second time within the span of three years at the same store, police said.
Lynne M. Johnson, 51, who represents the city's 10th Ward, was charged with misdemeanor retail theft after she allegedly tried to steal several items from a Meijer store in the 800 block of North Route 59 on Sunday evening, according to an Aurora Police Department news release.
A Meijer undercover security employee observed Johnson concealing markers, pencils, holiday party favors and two bottles of Ibuprofen in her purse, police reports say. She paid for other merchandise at a checkout line, but then left without paying for the concealed items, which were valued at $55, police said.
Johnson was held without incident as police responded.
In August, 2013, Johnson was also charged with retail theft for taking $150.24 worth of cosmetics and food from the same Meijer store, Aurora police said. The store is located in the ward she represents.
She pleaded guilty in that case and, according to court records, was granted supervision.
For the latest alleged theft, Johnson posted $150 cash bond and was released. She's expected to appear in court next month, police said.
