Atlanta Tops O'Hare As Nation's Busiest Airport

CHICAGO (CBS) -- O'Hare International Airport has lost its title as the nation's busiest airport.

In 2015, Atlanta's Hartsfield–Jackson International Airport handled a total of 882,497 flights (departures and arrivals), up 1.6 percent compared with 2014, according to final statistics released by the Federal Aviation Administration.

O'Hare slipped to No. 2. with 875,136 arrivals and departures, down 0.8 percent.

Midway International Airport ranked No. 25 in the country with 253,519, up 1.7 percent.

O'Hare and Atlanta simply compete with each other for the "busiest airport title. The No 3 airport, Dallas Fort-Worth is about 200,000 flights behind (681,261).

Los Angeles (655,564) and Denver (547,648) rounded out the top 5.

The busiest days for flights at Chicago O'Hare during 2015 all occurred during the summer months:
