AT&T Worker Shot In Berwyn During Armed Robbery: Police

(CBS) – A worker for AT&T was shot during an armed robbery Monday morning in west suburban Berwyn, police there said.

The incident occurred around 11 a.m. in the 6300 block of Park Avenue. The utility employee said he was working in the area when a male suspect displayed a handgun and demanded his wallet.

The worker complied and began to flee when the suspect shot him in the back. The suspect also fired at a motorist who witnessed the robbery, but that person was not hit, Berwyn police said.

The man who was shot was transported to Loyola University Medical Center. A fellow employee tells CBS 2's Charlie De Mar the man is a father and in his forties.

"Our thoughts are with our employee, and we are cooperating with police in their investigation," an AT&T spokesperson said in an email to CBS 2.
