At O'Hare, Anxiety And Tears Of Relief As Jet Arrives From Turkey

(CBS) – CBS 2's Brad Edwards was at O'Hare International Airport as one of the last flights out of Istanbul arrived in Chicago.

Among those waiting at the airport was a distressed woman, in tears, who wasn't sure if her father had made the flight.

"My dad was on that flight. I just didn't know if he got on it or not," she told Edwards. "He's good. He's here."

These were reunions pricked with anxiety of the news that the very airport they left came under attack hours later.

"We were driving here, and it was like, 'The Istanbul airport just got bombed,' said Brogan Modd, who awaited a friend.

Howard Bender of Naperville awaited the arrival of his wife, Kathie Bender. Federal agents, she said, interviewed those arriving.

"They wanted to know if we had seen anything unusual at the airport," she said.

Their daughter has been traveling Europe and the Middle East.

"This is too close, this is way, way too close," Howard Bender said.
