Multiple Injuries In Palmer Square Porch Collapse

Chicago (CBS) -- At least four people were injured, one critically, after a porch collapsed overnight in the Palmer Square neighborhood.

Emergency crews responded to the 2900 block of West Lyndale just before 2 a.m. after a porch separated from an apartment building.

According to Chicago Police Department officials, a second floor rear porch collapsed onto the first floor porch resulting in multiple injuries.

A woman who lives in that building said it sounded like there was a party going on when the structure gave way.

Four victims were transported to area hospitals via the Chicago Fire Department and a fifth person may have self-transported to an area hospital for treatment.

A representative with the Chicago Department of Buildings confirmed they have been in contact with the fire department and an inspector will be onsite today to do an assessment. The representative also confirmed there is no history of building code violations at the property.
