Deadly crash temporarily shuts down I-55 in Joliet

A person was killed early Sunday morning in a multi-vehicle crash on I-55 in Joliet, Illinois.

The crash happened at 5:12 a.m. on Interstate 55 at Black Road in Joliet, according to Illinois State Police.

State police said one person was killed, but did not provide further details.

Video from the scene showed what appeared to be at least two wrecked cars — one on the shoulder of the highway, the other in the ditch alongside the road.

All southbound lanes were closed after the crash, and traffic was diverted off I-55 southbound at Route 30. All lanes later reopened.
