At Ag High School, Thanksgiving Is A Farm To Table Experience

(CBS) – Thanksgiving came early for some high school students who harvested the food they're about to serve -- evening raising more than a dozen turkeys!

CBS 2's Vince Gerasole reports from Chicago's High School for Agricultural Sciences, where they're sharing their fruits of their labor with others.

On Tuesday, 300 seniors from the neighborhood visited to enjoy a meal prepared by students. The dishes included pumpkin that was processed at the school, not from a can.

"This stuff tastes better," Hallie Spolarich says.

At the campus in Mount Greenwood, they've got a working farm. They even raised 13 turkeys for the feast.

"We send them away to be slaughtered," Assistant Principal Sheila Fowler says. "We don't do that here."
