As Temperatures Soar, Chicago Could Flirt With Record Heat Thursday

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Chicago will get a taste of summer on Thursday, which will be the warmest day of the year so far, and will flirt with record heat.

CBS 2 Meteorologist Megan Glaros reports, while temperatures on Wednesday will top out around 70 close to the lake, and in the upper 70s in the suburbs, temperatures on Thursday should soar into the middle 80s.

Thursday's high could reach about 85 degrees, which is just two degrees shy of the May 7 record of 87, set in 1964, according to the National Weather Service.

The warm and sunny conditions were clearing away a blanket of fog that reduced visibility to zero in parts of the Chicago area Wednesday morning.

Friday will bring thunderstorms to the area, though temperatures will again reach the 80s, before getting significantly cooler over the weekend, with highs not expected to get past the high 60s on Saturday or Sunday, with more chances for rain or storms.
