Artists Katy Perry Should Enlist For Super Bowl Halftime Show

By Shannon Carlin, Radio.com

Katy Perry is in full Super Bowl halftime mode. We're talking no french fries and even less details about what is planned for her performance on Feb. 1 in Arizona.

But in an interview earlier this week, Perry did hint that her performance will be filled with exciting entrances and exits that could incorporate the retractable roof at the University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, Ariz., where Super Bowl XLIX is taking place. Perhaps she plans on one-upping Diana Ross' helicopter farewell in 1996?

Perry also revealed that Lenny Kravitz will be a surprise guest during her performance. But was it just a slip of the tongue or a purposely coy hint when Perry said Kravitz was just the first surprise guest to be revealed for her halftime show?

It's not unusual to see the  bring out other acts, unless, you know, you're like Prince and your purple-ness is more than enough to keep fans happy.

Bruno Mars brought out the Red Hot Chili Peppers last year. In 2012, Madonna brought out LMFAO, Cee Lo Green, Nicki Minaj and M.I.A.—though she may wish she hadn't, certainly on the latter. Even Beyoncé relinquished the throne for a few minutes when her Destiny's Child groupmates, Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams, made an appearance two years ago.

So here are six artists we think would make Perry's performance even better.

1. Miley Cyrus

While Katy's just being Katy, Miley can help out by just being Miley—riding inflatable hot dogs through the air and sticking her tongue out all over the place, that sort of thing. Maybe she can even take Katy's whipped cream bra out of retirement. Sure, the two had a bit of a falling out after that kiss—you know, that kiss at Miley's show last February that had Katy saying she didn't know where that tongue had been—so maybe this is the place where they can officially kiss and make-up during a duet of "I Kissed A Girl." Perhaps even literally if the censors could handle it.

2. Kacey Musgraves

Kacey Musgraves has toured with the California gurl and shown that she can make beautiful country-twinged music with Perry. Kacey is also the perfect fit for a Super Bowl taking place in Arizona, a state that is certainly no stranger to country music. But since Kacey is all about making it clear you should follow your own arrow and kissing boys or girls, if that's what you're into, she's a much more rock 'n' roll choice than, say, someone like Carrie Underwood. Maybe the two ladies will even premiere that Wizard of Oz themed song they've been teasing.

3. John Mayer

To prove there is no longer any bad blood between the two—and perhaps a very coy way for her to get back at Taylor Swift for writing a song called "Bad Blood," which almost definitely is about her—she can bring out her on again, off again boyfriend John Mayer to go head to head with fellow guitarist Kravitz. Mayer can guitar face the heck out of any song off Prism. And since the two are reportedly back on, we certainly wouldn't mind if the couple officially announced their relationship is hot, not cold, with a rendition of Mayer's Perry-featuring track "Who You Love." Bonus if that mechanical bull from the video makes a repeat appearance at the Super Bowl.

4. Madonna

Sure, Madonna just headlined her own Super Bowl halftime show only three years ago, but b---h, she's Madonna. She's got an album on the way and what better way to promote it then by appearing on the most watched telecast of the year? Katy and Madge are best buds—even teaming up for a V Magazine cover and a charitable art project—so  why wouldn't Katy want to help Madonna earn the Super Bowl glory that she so rightfully deserved until M.I.A. ruined it all by waving that middle finger around. We're hoping for a mash-up of Perry's "Birthday" and the Material Girl's "Dress You Up." Diplo's welcome to produce it. If not, Skrillex will do.
