Art Institute Ahead Of The Curve With Selfie Stick Ban

(CBS) -- Chicago's Art Institute was way ahead of the curve on the stick issue, though officials there swear they love selfies.

Spokesman Rebecca Baldwin says all too often selfie stickers lose track of paintings and people around them.

"We see them as a potential risk to the artwork as well as other people in the museum," Baldwin said. "When folks are holding on to these and setting up their shots they tend to forget there are other people around them. We are just concerned that they could cause damage or harm."

The Palace of Versailles, the Roman Coliseum and the Smithsonian have just now announced selfie stick bans. Baldwin says the Art Institute of Chicago didn't even let the first one in when someone showed up with one late last year.
