Armed Suspect Robs Orland Park Bank Branch

(STMW) -- A gunman robbed a southwest suburban First Midwest Bank branch Monday afternoon, firing two shots inside the bank but wounding no one, authorities said.

The robber took an unknown amount of money from the bank, 11200 W. 143rd St., FBI spokeswoman Joan Hyde said.

Orland Park police Cmdr. John Keating said the armed man fled into a residential area northwest of the bank. He said police searched the area with police dogs but were unable to find him.

Keating said there were no customers in the bank when the robber entered about 1:30 p.m., but a male customer did come in a short time later and was shot at but not hit.

Police received numerous 911 calls from people outside the bank and the customer who was shot at, he said.

The bandit was described as black, about 30 years old, about 6 feet tall and 185 pounds and wearing dark jeans, a dark hooded sweatshirt underneath a black-and-white flannel hooded jacket and black athletic shoes.

James Roolf, corporate relations officer for First Midwest Bank, said the bank will reopen on Tuesday. He declined to say how much money was taken as the investigation is still ongoing but said the staff responded as they had been trained to in the event of a robbery.

Police are asking that anyone who might have information on the robbery or the suspect to call 911.
