Archdiocese Of Chicago Appoints 23 New Deacons

CHICAGO (CBS) -- The Chicago Archdiocese has 23 newly appointed ministers of the gospel as of Saturday.

Cardinal Blase Cupich ordained nearly two dozen permanent and transitional deacons during an elaborate ceremony at Holy Name Cathedral.

The newly ordained deacons will be assigned to parishes across the greater Chicago area. Their duties will include preaching, leading prayer and performing baptisms, marriages and funeral services.
