Archbishop Cupich Asks 6 NW Side Catholic Schools To Come Up With Merger Plan

(CBS) -- Archbishop Blase Cupich has put Catholic school educators on notice: buckle down and create a merger plan or he'll do it himself.

He wants half a dozen schools struggling with low enrollment to make up a pilot program.

"We picked six school, we felt really could benefit from this," Cupich said. "They're gonna help us put in a program that will I think have a big impact."

The six schools are:

  • St. Constance, 5841 W. Strong St.
  • St. Cornelius, 5252 N. Long Ave.
  • Our Lady of Victory, 4434 N. Laramie Ave.
  • St. Pascal, 6143 W. Irving Park Rd.
  • St. Tarcissus, 6040 W. Ardmore Ave.
  • St. Thecla, 6323 N. Newcastle Ave.
  • In the next few weeks, leaders at the schools will decide if they want to join the program or go on their own.

Nothing will go into effect until the 2016 school year.
