Antioch Woman Found With Dog Bites Died Of Natural Causes

CHICAGO (STMW) -- A 71-year-old woman died of natural causes in her north suburban home before she was discovered with dog bite marks on her body Tuesday evening, police said.

Elizabeth A. Flood was found by her 23-year-old grandson inside a home in the 26000 block of West Channel Avenue in unincorporated Antioch about 5:30 p.m., according to a statement from the Lake County sheriff's office.

The grandson called 911 and told dispatchers it looked as though the woman's dogs — a German shepherd and Labrador/chow mix — had attacked her, according to the sheriff's office.

However, an autopsy Wednesday found Flood died of natural causes before she suffered multiple dog bites, according to the sheriff's office.

When authorities arrived, the German shepherd was found walking around the neighborhood, and the other dog was still in the home. Lake County Animal Control took both dogs into custody.
