Annual Our Lady Of Guadalupe Pilgrimage In Des Plaines Cancelled

CHICAGO (CBS) --The image of Our Lady of Guadalupe was removed Friday morning from its shrine in Des Plaines, ahead of Saturday's feast day for Catholics.

The removal was done in a ceremony, which was streamed online. This year's pilgrimage to the shrine was cancelled because of the pandemic, with Cardinal Blase Cupich asking people to celebrate the feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe at home.

The image of the Virgin Mary will return Sunday morning.
