Animation Shows What Chicagoans Do In A Typical Day

CHICAGO (CBS) -- What do we do in a day? Where do we go? When?
MIT Ph.D. candidate Shan Jiang created an animation that shows the movement of people during their daily lives all around the Chicago area.
The visualization tracks the movements of thousands of people who answered questions on the 2008 study titled "Chicago Travel Tracker Household Travel Inventory."
Jiang began his work in 2011.
The data is color-coded and the dots represent people when (and where) they are at home (gray), work (blue), school (yellow), transit (black), shopping (red), personal (green), recreation (teal) and civic (purple).
The time-lapse video below shows the movements during a typical weekday, based on the 2008 data.
