Among Chicago's Shooting Victims: Mom, 44, Attending A Barbecue

(CBS) – A 44-year-old woman was fatally shot early Monday in the Morgan Park neighborhood as her 11-year-old daughter looked on.

Tonya Gunn was at a barbecue around 12:30 a.m. and standing outside her car in the 10900 block of South Throop Street when someone from a passing vehicle fired shots, police said.

She was pronounced dead at Roseland Hospital.

"I've lost a friend, a child, my baby girl," the victim's mother, Sandra Gunn, tells CBS 2's Brad Edwards. "I just wish all these innocent people who are out trying to enjoy life could really enjoy life without being gunned down."

Other cars and homes on the block were riddled with bullets.

At least 13 people were killed and 58 others were wounded in shootings across Chicago over the long holiday weekend, from Thursday evening through early Monday morning.
