LYONS, Ill. (STMW) -- A private ambulance was stolen from John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County Sunday night, and later recovered in west suburban Lyons.

About 8:45 p.m., a suspect got into the ambulance as emergency personnel was unloading a patient and taking them into the hospital, located at 1969 W. Ogden Ave., police said.

The driver took off in a unknown direction, police said.

Later Sunday evening, officers on patrol in Lyons located the ambulance near a Burger King restaurant at Ogden and 1st avenues, according to Lyons police, who declined to provide further information early Monday.
