Alshon Jeffery Misses Practice, While Several Bears Return

By Chris Emma--

LAKE FOREST, Ill. (CBS) -- With Week 1 finally here, the Bears have some updates on the injury front.

Receivers Eddie Royal (hip) and Marquess Wilson (hamstring) were practicing in the session open to the media Monday, while Alshon Jeffery (calf) wasn't present. In addition, cornerback Tracy Porter (hamstring) didn't practice, while quarterback Jimmy Clausen and nose tackle Eddie Goldman returned from their concussions.

Bears coach John Fox didn't comment on the Bears' injury status and deferred to the first injury report, set to be released on Wednesday. He also didn't comment on whether two-time Pro Bowl guard Kyle Long will move to right tackle.

"I don't think it serves you well to advertise what you're going to do, personnel or plays," Long said.

Jeffery, the Bears' top receiver, was ruled "day-to-day" by Fox on Aug. 13 because of a calf injury. He hasn't taken the field since.

Fortunately for Chicago, the returns of Royal and Wilson bolster a receiving core that was in need of help throughout the preseason.

The Bears host the Packers on Sunday at Soldier Field, with kickoff coming at noon.
