Allan Kustok Sentenced To 60 Years For Murdering Wife

CHICAGO (CBS) -- A judge on Wednesday sentenced an Orland Park businessman to 60 years for the murder of his wife in their home four years ago.

Allan Kustok shot and killed Anita "Jeanie" Kustok on Sept. 29, 2010 while she was sleeping in her bed.

Prosecutors have said Kustok had multiple extramarital affairs before killing his wife.

"Over the years, it finally took a toll on him where he wanted everybody to hear what went through his mind that morning," said Rick Bueke, Kustok's attorney.

In a six minute statement, Allan Kustok sent condolences to his in-laws and cried when speaking of his wife. He said his time working in a funeral home as a teenager was the reason he delayed getting Jeannie to the hospital.

Kustok said he knew she was going to die and he wanted to spend their final moments as husband and wife alone.

"I was surprised at some of the things that he had to say," said prosecutor Jennifer Gonzales. "Working at the morgue, my first thought was all of those people had the opportunity to go to the emergency room first to see if his life could be saved - he never gave his wife Jeannie that opportunity."

Sarah Kustok, who worked as a sports anchor and reporter for Comcast SportsNet in Chicago, was at court for the sentencing. However, CBS 2's Marissa Bailey reports that she left before the sentencing hearing was over.

Kustok now works for the YES network in New York.

Her older brother, Zak, is a businessman who formerly played quarterback for Northwestern.

Family members left court without speaking to reporters.

Allan Kustok must serve 100 percent of the 60 year sentence. He will receive credit for the 4 years he's already spent in jail.
