Ald. Colón Has 'Confidence In Legal System' After DUI Stop
(CBS) – Northwest Side Chicago Ald. Rey Colón has been accused of driving under the influence, Illinois state police say.
Colón, who represents the 35th Ward, was driving a Honda SUV early Friday on Interstate 290 near Sacramento when he was pulled over for failing to signal and improper lane usage, Illinois State Police Spokeswoman Monique Bond said Monday.
Colón was also issued citations for DUI and not having a valid driver's license.
The alderman was transported to the 11th District for processing, Bond said. A court hearing is slated for Aug. 15.
Colón issued a written statement Monday afternoon:
"I'd like to personally thank everyone who has contacted me with questions or to express support during this challenging moment. I have every confidence in the legal system and that justice will be served. I am not at liberty to discuss specifics on the matter as the case is still pending. In the meantime, I remain focused on serving my constituents, representing the neighborhoods that make up the 35th Ward and continuing to provide high quality public service without distraction."
