Albert Almora, Oscar De La Cruz Earn Cubs' Minor League Honors For August

(CBS) Double-A Tennessee outfielder Albert Almora and Single-A Eugene right-hander Oscar De La Cruz have been named the Cubs' minor league player and pitcher of the month for August, respectively.

The 21-year-old Almora hit .352 with 14 double, one homer, 15 RBIs, 22 runs and a .917 OPS in August. That included a 13-game hitting streak. He's hitting .276 with six homers and 69 runs in 104 at Tennessee this season.

The 20-year-old De La Cruz was 3-1 with a 2.73 ERA in five starts for Eugene in August. He struck out 32 batters and walked five in 29 2/3 innings. For the season, he's 6-3 with a 2.84 ERA and 1.00 WHIP.
