Albert Almora, Matt Murton Among 9 Cubs Sent To Minor League Camp

(CBS) Cubs trimmed their spring training roster to 36 players by assigning nine players to minor league camp Friday.

Most notably, Chicago sent down outfielders Albert Almora and Matt Murton. Also being assigned to minor league camp were outfielder John Andreoli, outfielder Juan Perez, infielder Jesus Guzman, infielder Kris Negron, right-hander Brandon Gomes, right-hander Ryan Williams and right-hander Jean Machi. All nine players were non-roster invitees to spring training.

Almora hit .242 in 33 at-bats in Cactus League play this spring, with a .569 OPS. He spent all of 2015 at Double-A, struggling early but finishing the season strong.
