After The Bell: Stocks Trade Higher As Earnings Season Begins

(CBS) -- Stocks traded higher Tuesday as earnings season kicked into high gear and investors eyed encouraging developments overseas. The NASDAQ gained 34, the S&P 500 added 9 and the Dow Jones industrial average closed up 76 points, settling to 18,053.

"With fears surrounding China and Greece receding that means less selling pressure and when you add it all up, I think there is a good shot that the S&P 500 will make a new all-time high in the near term," Jim Welsh, Portfolio Manager at ForwardInvesting.com, tells Andy Giersher.

He also noted that between now and Halloween the overall market is vulnerable to a 10-percent plus correction.
