After The Bell: Stocks Mixed Ahead Of Earnings Season

By Andy Giersher

(CBS) -- Stocks closed mixed Tuesday as Wall Street seeks direction ahead of third quarter earnings season. The S&P 500 lost 7, the NASDAQ shed 33 and the Dow Jones Industrial Average closed up nearly 14 points, settling to 16,790.

"I also think we will see a great deal of weakness from companies that have operations and a lot of exposure to China and other emerging markets, maybe even Europe."
