After Rally, Chance The Rapper Leads Hundreds To Early Voting Site

(CBS) -- Chance the Rapper encouraged young people Monday to exercise their right to vote before leading hundreds of people from Grant Park to a Loop early-voting site.

The crowds of people came through the downtown to Dearborn and Washington streets, where election officials were caught off-guard. Chicago police monitored the group, but no disturbances were reported.

Chance went inside the early-voting site at 15 W. Washington St. and cast his ballot.

Once he emerged from the site, he was escorted by security in to a waiting vehicle. The performance and rally he headlined was geared toward Millennials.

Chance's real name is Chancellor Johnathan Bennett. The 23-year-old is from Chicago's West Chatham neighborhood on the South Side.

Early voting lines had been long all day Monday. Officials said anyone who had queued up by 7 p.m. would be allowed to vote Monday.
