CHICAGO (STMW) -- A Chicago Lawn man faces several felony charges after he crashed a stolen vehicle and was subsequently identified in several other robberies, police said.

Willie Clay was charged with two counts of armed robbery with a firearm and three counts of armed robbery with a dangerous weapon, according to a statement from Chicago Police.

Clay, 45, was charged after he crashed a vehicle about 10:07 a.m. Monday in the 2700 block of West 57th Street in Gage Park, police said.

Clay stole the vehicle shortly after 5 a.m. on Jan. 8 in the 1900 block of North Whipple in Logan Square, police said. A replica semi-automatic handgun was found inside.

Police said Clay, of the 6500 block of South Talman, was later identified as the man who committed several armed robberies on the North and West sides.

Clay, who was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital to be treated for injuries he sustained in the crash, is scheduled to appear in bond court Thursday.
